T5I

Bottom Line:

For beginning or amateur photographers, the Canon T5i is a great option with an easy to use vari angle touch screen. If you plan to use the camera primarily for video work, you might choose to stick with older models (T4i / T3i) to save some money since the video features haven’t significantly improved.

Canon EOS T5i Performance Review:

This video by Fenchel & Janisch offers samples of the video produced from the T5i:

Video review highlights:

  • Aliasing is less noticeable than in previous models
  • Low light performance is good up to about 1600 ISO
  • Great entry level DSLR for new filmmakers or to have as a back up camera
  • As far as video is concerned, there’s not much difference in quality between then t5i and older models (T4i / T3i). It also still doesn’t come with a higher bitrate or headphone jack.

Another review of the T5i can be seen here:

Video review highlights:

  • Touch screen is nice and responsive but screen can quickly become covered in fingerprints
  • Live view focusing is quicker
  • Creative filters are able to be previewed on the screen
  • Produces high quality images with detail, pleasant colors, and a good range of tones
  • Exposure can be off in high contrast situations
